Adventure Cycling Association

American Bicycle Association - BMX (ABA BMX)

In 1977, pockets of loosely organized BMX races dotted the nation from coast to coast. It was time for a national sanctioning body and from out of this need, the AMERICAN BICYCLE ASSOCIATION was created.

The AMERICAN BICYCLE ASSOCIATION not only filled that need, it completely changed and continues to shape the future of the sport it serves. The first step was to create a system of qualifying participants that was not only fair, but one which enhanced the competitive nature of the very sport itself and still afforded each and every rider the chance to be a winner.

American Track Racing Association (ATRA)

The American Track Racing Association (ATRA) is formed by United State and Canadian velodromes to advance the sport of track cycling, the capital improvements of our facilities and for the promotion of track riding and racing.

Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP)

The Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals is the only professional membership organization for the discipline of pedestrian and bicycle transportation. APBP members are employees of all levels of government, consulting firms and non-profits who work in the engineering, planning, landscape architecture, police, safety, health and promotion fields and specialize in improving conditions for bicycling and walking.

Bikes Belong

Bikes Belong works to put more people on bicycles more often. From helping create safe places to ride to promoting bicycling, we carefully select projects and partnerships that have the capacity to make a difference.

We concentrate our efforts in four areas:

  • Federal Policy and Funding
  • National Partnerships
  • Community Grants
  • Promoting Bicycling

Bicycle Friendly Community

The Bicycle Friendly Community Campaign is an awards program that recognizes municipalities that actively support bicycling. A Bicycle-Friendly Community provides safe accommodation for cycling and encourages its residents to bike for transportation and recreation. The League of American Bicyclists administers the Bicycle Friendly Community Campaign.

Bicyclinginfo.org The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC)

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) is a national clearinghouse for information about health and safety, engineering, advocacy, education, enforcement, access, and mobility for pedestrians (including transit users) and bicyclists. The PBIC serves anyone interested in pedestrian and bicycle issues, including planners, engineers, private citizens, advocates, educators, police enforcement, and the health community.

Environmental Transportation Options

Citizens for Rideable Communities is a grass roots effort by citizens of the City of Port Townsend and the residents of Jefferson County; supported by people from all over the world. After all we do all live on the same planet and decisions on pollution control here affect the entire world.

We support the concept of the Green Transportation Hierarchy for our community and fight for local legislation which will enhance the livability of our community and the world through sound transportation choices.

We wish to reduce our dependency on foreign oil by educating the population and encouraging people to chose alternative forms of transportation whenever possible. In this community we have a very good bus transportation system that chose to use a biodiesel mix in their fuel. We have an extensive system of trails for making your walking commute more enjoyable and shorter. We have bicycle paths and bicycle lanes.

International Bicycle Fund (IBF)

The International Bicycle Fund is an independent, non-profit organization (501(c)3) (Fed ID # 91-1286223). Its primary purpose is to promote bicycle transportation. Most IBF projects and activities fall into one of four categories: planning and engineering, safety education, economic development assistance and promoting international understanding. IBF’s objective is to create a sustainable, people-friendly environment by creating opportunities of the highest practicable quality for bicycle transportation. IBF is funded by private donation.

International Cycling Union (UCI)

The International Cycling Union (UCI), a non-profit-making organization founded on 14 April 1900, is the association of the National Cycling Federations. Its headquarters are in Aigle, Switzerland.

The aims of the UCI are as follows:

  • regulating cycling at international level;
  • promoting cycling in every country throughout the world and at all levels;
  • organizing the World Championships for all disciplines;
  • encouraging friendly relations between members of the cycling family;
  • promoting sporting ethics and fair play;
  • representing the sport of cycling and defending its interests on national and international bodies;
  • collaborating with the International Olympic Committee with respect to Olmpic cycling events.

Our mission states that the UCI means to develop and promote all aspects of cycling. This is because cycling is more than just a competitive sport. It is also a leisure activity and an environmentally friendly means of transport.

International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA)

The International Mountain Bicycling Association is a non-profit educational association whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve great trail experiences for mountain bikers worldwide.

IMBA’s worldwide network includes 32,000 individual members, more than 450 bicycle clubs, more than 130 corporate partners and about 200 bicycle retailers. IMBA’s members live in all 50 U.S. states, most Canadian provinces and in 30 other countries.

Pedals for Progress

Every year, affluent Americans buy 22 million new bicycles and discard millions of old ones, abandoning many more unused in basements, sheds, and garages. Most of these end up in our already overburdened landfills. Meanwhile, poor people overseas need cheap, non-polluting transportation to get to jobs, markets, customers, and schools. Pedals for Progress has received, processed and donated over 115,000 bicycles, 1,000 used sewing machines and $10.8 million in new spare parts to partner charities in 32 developing world countries.

Furthermore, Pedals for Progress promotes bicycle repair businesses in the developing world. Typically, a community owned non-profit bike store will get the first containerized cargo shipment for free (about 450 bicycles), but that repair store then has to earn enough money selling the repaired bikes to pay for the next shipment.

Randonneurs USA (RUSA)

The League of American Bicyclists

United States Cycling Federation (USCF) - Advances, grows, and services competitive track, cyclocross and road cycling in the United States. Have Fun, Race Your Bike!

National Collegiate Cycling Association (NCCA) - The purpose of the NCCA is to promote competitive cycling for students at colleges, universities and similar degree-granting educational institutions in the United States.

BMX Association (BMXA) - Guides and promotes BMX racing as a competitive sport in the United States.

USA Cycling Development Foundation (ASACDF)

The USA Cycling Development Foundation was created with the primary purpose of raising money to drive American athlete development programs in cycling. Of the major industrialized countries, only the United States does not maintain a socialized sport development system. This means we do not receive government support, (your tax dollars.) Our donors fund the athlete development programs for juniors, U23 and other future Olympic athletes with their annual gifts. Our mission is to assist USA Cycling with the implementation of consistent and sustained development programs for young American bike racers - We support the future of American cycling.
